Digital TV on Mac Mini, part 2

Monday, 03. 30. 2009  –  Category: Various

For those of you that just want to know if it works or not, the answer is yes. Yes! It worked! Gladly, I didn’t order the various hardware and software components for nothing. I can now watch digital (HD) television, movies and listen to music on the Mac mini using a single remote.

Digital TV on Mac Mini, part 1

Thursday, 03. 12. 2009  –  Category: Various

I’m probably one of the last Mohicans, but I still watch tv on an old 4:3 television set. It isn’t even worthy of calling it a set. It’s just an old CRT tube. Now, I want to use a Mac Mini as the viewing and recording apparatus for digital tv. Sounds easy you’d say, but I didn’t know about smart-cards, CAM modules, CI slots, DVB-C/S2/T…

Dutch Adobe Usergroup alive

Thursday, 07. 12. 2007  –  Category: Various

Last week, the first meeting of the revamped Dutch Macromedia Usergroup, to be called Adobe Usergroup from now on, was held in Amsterdam. Topics were Flash CS3 integration (with other CS3 software like Illustrator and Photoshop) by yours truly, PaperVision 3D by Ralph Hauwert and Photoshop and 3D by Niels de Keizer.

A lot of people [...]

Setting up my new blog

Sunday, 06. 24. 2007  –  Category: Various

I’m currently working on implementing my new blog, based on Wordpress.

Importing content from my previous TextPattern based blog has proven to be quite messy, so all comments that were posted earlier are lost, as are the permalinks (so much for ‘perma’ in permalinks…).

Please use the search box at the right to find what you’re looking [...]

Martijn de Visser 2.0

Thursday, 10. 26. 2006  –  Category: Various

I know, it has been awfully quiet around here lately.

That’s because I’ve been very busy with work and lots of small side-projects, leaving virtually no room for some decent blogging.

Also, I’ve switched jobs. I’m not leaving Lost Boys, but I’ll be continuing my career focusing on user experience. I was originally trained as an interaction [...]

Join the BBC Climate change experiment

Tuesday, 02. 14. 2006  –  Category: Various

Join the BBC Climate change experiment today and have your idle CPU time used for something valuable: Climate modeling.

The BBC is organising the world’s largest ever climate experiment, and they need all the help they can get. Calculating Climate models is hard, so the more computers work on it, the faster the results will come [...]

Playing WoW

Tuesday, 02. 15. 2005  –  Category: Various

I made a big mistake last weekend: I bought World of Warcraft. WoW is a MMORPG, Massively Mulitplayer Online Roleplaying Game. This highly addictive game from Blizzard is nothing like I’ve ever seen.

The level of detail is astonishing and the storylines for each quest are great. I know, it’s a bit expensive at about [...]

Macromedia goodies

Wednesday, 09. 22. 2004  –  Category: Various

Received a FedEx box filled with Macromedia goodies yesterday, thanks folks!

Contrary to what other members of the Flash community experienced, the package was delivered without any additional taxing, so it is not only a gift in intention, but also in reality.

Hope to find some time asap to update my blog with new content. I’m working [...]

MX 2004 T-Shirt

Thursday, 12. 4. 2003  –  Category: Various

I’m beginning to wonder if my MX 2004 t-shirt is ever gonna arrive. The Macromedia shop still says ‘pending shipment…’ Apparently, distributing software is a lot easier than clothing. We’ll see, hope to have it before the second Flash Updater is released, though…

Update (december 13th) – I got my t-shirt, it’s numbered 1468:

Not [...]

Joined the world of blogging!

Saturday, 10. 4. 2003  –  Category: Various

I finally decided to start a blog – just like what must be millions of others did before me. It appeared to me that a blog is often an easy to maintain homepage-like web space and that was exactly what I was looking for.

So, what to put on a blog? My findings with Flash MX [...]
